The future of news is filtering trash
Pretty stunned by the gall of young people in Veles Macedonia making thousands each month from pro-Donald Trump anti-Obama news, see news articles here.
I am also disappointed that corporate news media are continually retweeting Trumps inflationary and less than credible stories to deliver 'investigative' views. Come on news producers, do us a favour (please).
I notice that Obama gave an interview in the White House with Comedy Central's Daily Show. The President discussing the state of the nation on a comedy show? For real?
Do we even bring up long-time radio show anchor Rush Limbaugh, I've had a good four hours listening to his show and it is pure entertainment and propaganda.
“Conservatism is an active intellectual pursuit; it requires a constant vigilance. It has nothing to do with feelings. Liberalism is the most gutless choice you can make. You just see suffering and say, ‘Oh, I feel so horrible!'”
Haha, best entertainment yet! And guys like this actually think he is standing for something 'real'. Do the world a favour (please).
Anyway, what has news and journalism come to? Ratings, ad sales, conversions, viral score, page impressions, backlinks, outbrain 'recommended' articles and entertainment enhanced news.
We have seen the rise (and fall) of mass content companies pushing their barrow of computer re-generated keyword based article varieties.
All this mash-up entertainment leaves society with generational problems. The current state is as George Orwell put it:
For a creative writer possession of the truth is less important than emotional sincerity."
Leading into his other notable quote:
In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act.
In the very close future we will need very good lie detectors. Understanding the truth will be difficult. Revealing the facts behind the truth will be near impossible and having a platform with an audience ready to asborb it will be (in)credible.
Search technology will have to become smarter to remove false news, or people will soon stop trusting search sites altogether, which would be very bad for PPC keyword ad sales.
Work-around search software using 3rd party qualifier software might be the thing?
Policies will have to be developed to identify and dob-in those openly creating false news, perhaps with measured punishment?
One will need to control and compartmentalise their diet of news, such as:
-
Urgent real breaking stories
-
Top real stories from reputable sources that is fact-checked by other independent 3rd qualifiers
-
Just simply Entertainment
And if one chooses not to be discerning about their media diet or unbalanced? Then one is without informed insight, susceptible to making incorrect decisions and forming judgements based on entertainment. I really donʻt know what implications this will have. Something about the herd-mentality or mob-like social nature of people to gravitate towards the majority will have something to do with it.
The future for those discerning to be informed will be about filtering trash.
