Ancestry according to DNA testing
Here are some interesting insights. This map is from Ancestry.com and illustrates their scientific approximation of my ancestral origins based on a DNA saliva test (I supplied a sample in the mail).
I'm quite enlightened by their approach but I strongly feel that I want to protect my genealogy from their machine. Ancestry.com are crowd sourcing DNA and origin knowledge and have no clear guidelines (or regulations) about how they will exploit that, either through some medical products or selling it's data to 3rd parties (e.g. profiling systems for law enforcement or any other kind of strong arm practice).
Currently, the closest approximation they can make of my genealogy (whakapapa) is to locate it between Hawaii & Tonga. If I supplied my whakapapa chart to them it would add a critical layer of validation to their data and place DNA like mine, possibly very very close to the actual origin of my tupuna.
